Born in 1953 in Sofia Bulgaria, Christo Gergov comes from an acclaimed line of artists, painters and sculptors. A citizen of Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, Gergov graduated Summa Cum Laude from the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1980). Gergov's thesis supervisors were Professor Ondrack and Professor Baladrini. A working artist since the 1970s, Gergov is a member of the Fine Arts Professionals Association of the Czech Republic as well as the Fine Arts Society of Prague.

Gergov primarily works out of the Czech Republic; a peculiar domicile when one situates it in the context of the 70s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, 10’s and 20’s. Consider the fact that Gergov's domicile and his art coincide with massive ideological transformations and unprecedented geopolitical events. Accordingly, a recurring theme in his work is a seeking toward a sense of rootedness as it pertains to the human individual.

As an artist, Gergov is fascinated with Orthodox Christianity. In particular, his artistic curiosity gravitates toward the way in which Orthodox Christianity presents the challenge of living a 'spiritual life' in the midst of: (i) Soviet-style Communism (ii) American-style Capitalism and (iii) European-style Social Democracy and supranationalism. Through it all, Gergov’s art offers an honest and insightful view into the human condition.
